Constantine's Dream

Em arezzo eu sonhei um sonho
In Arezzo I dreamed a dream
De são francisco, que se ajoelhou e orou
Of Saint Francis who kneeled and prayed
Para os pássaros e os animais e toda a humanidade
For the birds and the beasts and all humankind

Durante toda a noite senti-me atraída por ele
All through the night I felt drawn in by him
E eu o ouvi chamar
And I heard him call
Como um hino distante
Like a distant hymn

Voltei do silêncio do meu quarto
I retreated from the silence of my room
Descendo as pedras antigas lavadas com o amanhecer
Stepping down the ancient stones washed with dawn
E entrou na basílica que leva seu nome
And entered the basilica that bore his name
Vendo a sua efígie baixei a cabeça
Seeing his effigy I bowed my head
E meu coração palpitante eu dei para ele
And my racing heart I gave to him
Eu me ajoelhei e orei
I kneeled and prayed
E o sono que eu não pude encontrar na noite
And the sleep that I could not find in the night
Encontrei através dele
I found through him
Vi diante de mim o mundo de seu mundo
I saw before me the world of his world
O campo claro, os pássaros em abundância
The bright field,the birds in abundance
Toda a natureza da qual ele cantou
All of nature of which he sang
Cantando dele
Singing of him
Toda a beleza que o rodeava enquanto caminhava
All the beauty that surrounded him as he walked
Sua natureza, que era a própria natureza
His nature that was nature itself
E ouvi-lo, eu o ouvi falar
And I heard him-I heard him speak
E os pássaros cantavam docemente
And the birds sang sweetly
E os lobos lambeu os pés
And the wolves licked his feet

Mas eu não podia me dar a ele
But I could not give myself to him
Eu me senti uma outra chamada de basílica em si
I felt another call from basilica itself
Tha chamada da chamada arte do homem
Tha call of art-the call of man
E a beleza do material chamou-me para longe
And the beauty of material drew me away
E eu acordei e vi na parede
And I awoke,and beheld upon the wall

Quem tinha estado onde eu estava
Who had stood where I stood
Com seu pincel acariciou a lenda da verdadeira cruz
With his brush stroked The Legend of the True Cross
Ele imaginou constantino avançando para cumprimentar o inimigo
He envisioned Constantine advancing to greet the enemy
Mas, como ele estava passando o rio
But as he was passing the river
Um medo desacostumado agarrou suas entranhas
An unaccustomed fear gripped his bowels
Uma antecipação tão avassaladora que se manifesta em ondas
An anticipation so overwhelming that it manifested in waves

Durante toda a noite um sonho desenhou para ele
All through the night a dream drew toward him
Como um avanço cruzada
As an advancing Crusade
Ele dormia na sua tenda no campo de batalha
He slept in his tent on the battlefield
Enquanto seus homens estavam de guarda
While his men stood guard
E um anjo despertaram
And an angel awoke him
Constantino dentro de seu sonho acordou
Constantine within his dream awoke
E seus homens viram uma passagem de luz sobre o rosto do rei
And his men saw a light pass over the face of the king
O rei conturbado
The troubled King
E o anjo veio e mostrou a ele
And the angel came and showed to him
O sinal da verdadeira cruz no céu
The sign of the true cross in heaven
E sobre ele foi escrito
And upon it was written

(Neste sinal deve te conquistar)
(In this sign shall thou conquer)

Na distância das barracas de seu exército foram acesas ao luar
In the distance the tents of his army were lit by moonlight
Mas um outro rei de brilho iluminou o rosto de constantino
But another king of radiance lit the face of Constantine
E na luz da manhã
And in the morning light
O artista, ver seu trabalho foi feito
The artist,seeing his work was done
Viu que era bom
Saw that it was good

Ele deixou cair o pincel e passou para um sono de sua própria
He let his brush drop and passed into a sleep of his own
E sonhou de constantino levando para a batalha em sua mão direita
And he dreamed of Constantine carrying into battle in his right hand
Uma impecável, cruz único imaculado branco
An immaculate,undefiled single white Cross
Piero della francesca, como seu bursh acariciou a parede
Piero della Francesca,as his bursh stroked the wall
Foi preenchido com um torpor
Was filled with a torpor
E caiu em um sonho de sua própria
And fell into a dream of his own

Da geometria do seu coração, ele mapeou-lo
From the geometry of his heart he mapped it out
Ele viu a ascensão king, equipados com armaduras
He saw the King rise,fitted with armor
Situado em cima de um cavalo branco
Set upon a white horse
Uma cruz imaculada em sua mão direita
An immaculate cross in his right hand
Ele avançou na direção do inimigo
He advanced toward the enemy
E a simetria, a perfeição de sua matemática
And the symmetry,the perfection of his mathematics
Causou a dispersão do inimigo
Caused the scattering of the enemy
Agitado, quebrado, eles fugiram
Agitated,broken,they fled

E piero della francesca acordar, clamou
And Piero della Francesca waking,cried out
Tudo é arte, tudo é futuro!
All is art-all is future!
Oh senhor, deixe-me morrer na parte de trás do advanture

Com uma escova e um olho cheio de luz
With a brush and an eye full of light
Mas à medida que avançava em idade
But as he advanced in age
A luz estava desfalcado de seus olhos
The light was shorn from his eyes
E cego, ele deitou em sua cama
And blinded,he laid upon his bed
Em um moring outubro 1492, e sussurrou
On an October moring 1492,and whispered

In such a manner that would have lifted the heart of St.Francis
