Had my heart set on zero gravity
Missed the signals too muted by engine roar
Had no instruments nearing my trajectory
From the mesosphere down to the ocean floor

Now I, honorary astronaut
I'll do the best with what I’ve got

Maybe I'm not meant for the heavens
Maybe I belong on the ground
And mission control's not returning my calls anymore

How many times do you wonder what church is for?
I said the words as a kid
Unsure what they meant to me
You spent steadfast to the image in place
Boldly claiming that I would be infinity
Made the suit and a helmet to build my case

But I, honorary astronaut
I’ll do the best with what I've got

But did you really think taping wings
To a new wake would mean you could fly?

There's nothing wrong at all with being grounded
Besides, you love it here
There's much more than you have never done
Than you could ever do
No need to compare

Did kicking myself when I'm down just make me a realist?

Every time the weight of who I wish I already was
Comes crashing down on who I still am
