Há uma linda história, a lenda tho ser
There is a lovely story, the legend tho it be
Ele conta como abençoado Jesus foi lamentada por uma árvore
It tells how blessed Jesus was pitied by a tree
T'was nos dias em que Jesus andou nesta terra em cima
T'was in the days when Jesus this earth did walk upon
A árvore dogwood era maior que é a madeira era firme e forte
The dogwood tree was larger it's wood was firm and strong

Como a história bonita a lenda de uma árvore
How beautiful the story the legend of a tree
Que chorou por querido Jesus: velho calvário
That sobbed for dear Jesus unto old calvary
Isso prova que, se nós o amamos uma bênção que vamos receber
It proves that if we love him a blessing we'll receive
Assim como a encantadora história da árvore dogwood humilde.
Just as the lovely story of the lowly dogwood tree.

No momento da crucificação o dogwood atingido o tamanho do carvalho e outras árvores florestais.
At the time of the crucifixion the dogwood attained the size of the oak and other forest trees.
Tão forte e firme era a madeira dele, que foi escolhido para a madeira da cruz.
So strong and firm was the wood of it, that it was chosen for the timber of the cross.
Para ser usado para um fim tão cruel muito angustiado a árvore
To be used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the tree
E Jesus percebeu isso e sorriu para ele.
And Jesus sensed this and smiled upon it.

E na sua compaixão suave para a tristeza disse a ele:
And in his gentle pity for sorrow said to it:
Por causa de seu arrependimento e piedade para o meu sofrimento eu te faço esta promessa
Because of your regret and pity for my suffering I make you this promise
Nunca mais o dogwood crescer o suficiente para ser usado para uma cruz
Never again shall the dogwood grow enough to be used for a cross
A partir de agora será delgado e curvado e torcido
Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted
E é flores deve ser na forma de uma cruz, duas pétalas longas e dois curtas pedais
And it's blossoms shall be in the form of a cross, two long petals and two short pedals

E, no centro da borda exterior de cada pétala
And in the center of the outer edge of each petal
Haverá a impressão prego dourado com ferrugem e manchada de sangue.
There'll be the nail print browned with rust and stained with blood.
E o centro da flor será uma imagem da coroa de espinhos
And the center of the flower will be an image of the crown of thorns
E todos os que vê-lo vai lembrar que foi em cima da árvore dogwood fui crucificado
And all who see it will remember that it was upon the dogwood tree I was crucified
E esta árvore não deve ser mutilado ou destruído, mas valorizado como um lembrete da minha morte
And this tree shall not be mutilated or destroyed but cherished as a reminder of my death

Duas pétalas longas duas pétalas curtas um símbolo da cruz
Two petals long two petals short a symbol of the cross
Em cada um a impressão de unhas e sangue que retrata Jesus perdido.
On each the print of nails and blood which pictures Jesus lost.
No centro de cada flor da coroa de espinhos pode ver
In the center of each flower the crown of thorns can see
E assim é contada a lenda da árvore dogwood humilde.
And so is told the legend of the lowly dogwood tree.
