I'd rather let the harvest go
E ir depressa pro hospital'
And hasten to the hospital'
'Não' ela lhe disse 'eu ficarei bem
'Nay' she told him 'I'll be fine

We both have laboring to do

And the babe will wait till the work is thru'

O pastor enrolou as fileiras amarelas
The shepherd rode the yellow rows
As nuvens acima e os campos abaixo
The clouds above and the fields below
E até todos os fardos estarem amarrados
Until the bales had all been tied
então foi em direção a casa encontrar suas mulher
Then homeward turned to find his wife
O suor acumulava-se sobre seu semblante
The sweat was wet upon her brow
Sua respiração saía pesada
Her breath it cameth laboredly
E então a chuva caía
And then the rain was coming down

Upon the fields of yellow hay
Disse o pastor, 'não adianta

The rain will surely win the race

Twere better if we let it fall

And hurry to the hospital'
'Vá' ela disse 'e trabalhe rapidamente
'Go' she said 'and work with haste
E traga aqueles fardos pra dentro do celeiro
And bring the bales into the barn
Do contrário a colheita vai se perder
Else the crop will go to waste
E o bebê esperará até que o trabalho acabe'
And the babe will wait till the work is done'

O pastor dirigiu no meio da tempestade
The shepherd drove into the storm
Pra dentro e fora do celeiro amarelo
And to and from the yellow barn
Até que metade dos fenos estivessem guardados a salvo
Till half the bales were safely in
Então foi encontrar sua mulher novamente
Then went to find his wife again
Quantas vezes seu nome ele chamou
How many times her name he called
E ela não daria resposta alguma
And no replying would she make
Sua respiração não saía mais
Her breath it cameth not at all
Ela não se levantaria de onde se deitou
She would not rise from where she lay

A tempestade acabou dentro de uma hora
The storm was o'er within the hour
O pastor viu o sol sair
The shepherd saw the sun come out
A mulher do pastor nunca mais o viu
The shepherd's wife saw ne'er again
Ele enterrou ela e o bebê juntos
He buried her and the babe within
Ele jogou as sementes ao chão
He turned the seed into the ground
E trouxe o rebanho pra se alimentar
He brought the flock to feed thereon
Ele segurou o cutelo e o arado
He held the cleaver and the plow
E o trabalho do pastor nunca terminou
And the shepherd's work was never done
